Koki`o
ke`oke`o Hibiscus arnottianus
Koki`o ke`oke`o
Hibiuscus waimeae
Family: Malvaceae Description:
Koki`o ke`oke`o refers to all white flowered native hibiscus of which
there are two species each with three subspecies. Two of the subspecies
are endangered. This fast growing and hardy hibiscus takes well to
pruning as we recommend that the heavy pruning of young plants will
result in a stronger specimen. The only hibiscus with a mild fragrance,
makes this plant a must for hedges or as a specimen shrub or even small
tree. Because hibiscus hybridize easily, we grow all plants form
cuttings and when transplanting, care must be taken until a root system
is firmly established. Most pest problems are outgrown. With moderate
water and full sun, koki`o ke`oke`o will thrive.
