Koki`o
`ula Hibiscus clayi
Family: Malvaceae
Description: This attractive member of the
Hibiscus family has a small, pure red flower. This plant is native to
Kaua`i and is endangered. Kokio `ula takes well to pruning, but if let
untamed will grow in a columnar fashion up to 15 feet tall with a 5 foot
spread. Compared to other native hibiscus, this species is slower
growing. Moderate watering and full sun and this plant will thrive in
mesic conditions. We grow this plant from cuttings of specimens already
in cultivation.
