Maile Alyxia
oliviformis Family: Apocynaceae
Description: Maile is best known for its
fragrant leaves used in lei-making. Most maile for lei-making is a
different Polynesian species with larger leaves. In the wild, this plant
grows at mid elevations in mesic conditions and may have different sized
leaves depending on light intensities. Plant in the full sun with
moderate water and give it something to climb on. In one years time, you
may strip the new growing tips to make a lei. We grow all maile from
seed.
