Naupaka kuahiwi
Scaevola chamissoniana Family:
Goodeniaceae Description:
This shrub is the mountain relative of the common coastal Naupaka known
as Naupaka kahakai. Better adapted to cooler temperatures and wetter
conditions, this shrub will grow to 15 feet if left unpruned. The white
flowers are fragrant and mature fruit are a shiny purple to black. Few
pest problems and a moderate growth rate make this plant great hedge
material or specimen plant. Allow for a 6 foot spread and plant in well
drained loam soil, full sun or partial shade, and moderate water. There
are several different species of Naupaka kuahiwi; we grow this species
as it grows faster than a few of its relatives.
