Pa`u o hi`iaka
Jacquemontia ovalifolia Family:
Convulvaceae Description:
This groundcover is in the morning glory family and will form a dense
mat in cultivation. The light purple flowers add an attractive element
to any landscape. This vine thrives in the heat of coastal and lower
elevations, though it will do fine in the full sun at mid elevations.
Though the water requirements for this plant are very low, in the
landscape, the more water, the better it looks. Takes well to pruning as
it easily roots at the nodes and does best in a well drained soil. When
planting as a groundcover, plant individual plants 12" apart. We grow
this plant from cuttings.
