Pili grass   Heteropogon contortus

Family:  Poaceae

Description: Pili grass is a tough perennial clump grass. The seed heads are wiry and sharp but can be managed. The straw lasts a long time as thatching or even mulch. This grass grows thicker and faster with water but is also very drought tolerant. We like to use pili in landscapes as a filler or on steep banks. Please see the pictures under the Plant Guide for examples of uses in landscapes.
