`Uki `uki   Dianella sandwicensis

Family: Liliaceae

Description:  This plant is related to Daylilies and is a versatile plant in the landscape. With long green leaves, and attractive purple fruit, this plant forms thick patches as it fills in an area slowly by spreading with rhizomes. This plant will grow to about 3 feet tall, so it could be considered either a shrub or a tall groundcover. Does best in full sun or partial shade. Requires moderate water or a mulch to retain moisture. When planting, don't plant to deep as the rhizome should remain near the surface of the soil. Allow for this plant to continually spread and dividing up the clumps is recommended periodically. We grow this plant from seed or division.
